Reception - Peter Rabbit 2024 - 2025

Mrs Carr

Welcome to Peter Rabbit’s class page!

My name is Mrs Carr and I am the Reception class teacher. I teach in Reception every morning and on Friday afternoons. On Monday afternoons, Reception children have PE. Please send children into school wearing their PE kit and trainers on Mondays. PE pumps will be kept in school for children to wear during indoor PE sessions and trainers are for outdoor PE sessions.

Mrs Sears teaches in Reception on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. Miss Holden is our class teaching assistant and Mrs Reeve is a teaching assistant who will be in Reception on Wednesday afternoons.

In Reception children have daily phonics and maths lessons. Children in Early Years learn best through play. Peter Rabbit class have lots of opportunities to develop their learning through our areas of continuous provision both inside the classroom and in our outdoor area. Throughout the day, there are a mixture of adult led guided activities and child led activities to enhance learning.

In Reception. learning is centred around the following seven areas of learning: Communication and Language (C&L), Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED), Physical Development (PD), Literacy (L), Mathematics (M), Understanding the World (UW) and Expressive Arts and Design (EAD).

During their time in Peter Rabbit class, children will learn about topics such as: All about me, seasons, people who help us, animals, space, life-cycles and the continents of the world.

Homework

Homework in Reception is mainly focused on reading. However, additional activities will be sent home on a Friday via email with an optional activity to consolidate learning in school. Photos of activities completed at home or photos of exciting news and experiences from home can be uploaded to Tapestry or emailed into school for show and tell.

Please send reading folders to school every day and read as much as possible at home. Reading books will be collected in on Mondays and will stay in school until Wednesdays when new reading books will come home.

Tapestry

I will upload photos to Tapestry throughout the year to build up a collection of photos of different types of learning in school. Photos from home showing WOW moments can also be uploaded to Tapestry to add to the online learning journals.

Facebook

Photos of learning and events taking place in school will be shared on Facebook. Please follow our school's Facebook page to see the exciting things that take place.

Milk and Fruit

All infant children are offered a piece of fruit during the day. Alternatively, you can send one healthy snack into school for your child. We encourage healthy eating and therefore unhealthy snacks such as biscuits, chocolate or crisps are not allowed. Families also have the option to purchase milk for your child. Milk is pre-ordered via Parent Pay.

Water Bottles

Please can your child bring a water bottle to school every day, with their name clearly visible. These will be taken home for cleaning and refilling each day. They can also be refilled at school during the day.

Library

The children can visit the infant library every Monday to choose a book to bring home to share. They need to bring the book back on a Monday, so it can be swapped for a new book.

PE

Our PE day is every Monday. Please send your child to school in their full PE kit on this day.
