Safeguarding (for Children)
What is safeguarding?
Safeguarding is the action that is taken to look after children and protect them from harm.
Safeguarding means:
- protecting children from harm
- preventing harm to children’s health or development
- ensuring children grow up somewhere that is safe and with people who care for them well
- taking action so all children can be safe and be the best they can be
Safeguarding has the highest importance at Turton Edgworth CEM Primary School.
If you are worried about anything, ANY adult in school will listen to your worries. They can't promise to keep it to themselves, as they may need to tell Mr Wheatley in order to make sure you are kept as safe as possible.
There are also some adults who have a bigger role in safeguarding at our school:
Mr Wheatley: Designated Safeguarding Leader (DSL). You all know Mr Wheatley is the Headteacher, but did you also know he is the peron in charge of safeguarding across the whole school? That is what "DSL" means and Mr Wheatley will always be happy to listen to you. If you choose to share your worries with other adults, they can speak with Mr Wheatley and discuss the best way to keep you safe
Mrs Carr: Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leader (DDSL). Mrs Carr is our Deputy Headteacher and she also teaches our Reception class. If Mr Wheatley is ill, or working in a different school, Mrs Carr will take on the role of safeguarding leader. She will listen to any worries you have and can also advise any other adults in school about the best ways to keep you safe.
Mrs Sears: Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leader (DDSL). Mrs Searsis our Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) leader and she also teaches in different classes across school. If Mr Wheatley is ill, or working in a different school, Mrs Sears will take on the role of safeguarding leader. She will listen to any worries you have and can also advise any other adults in school about the best ways to keep you safe.
Mrs Stacey Painter: Safeguarding Link Governor. Mrs Painter is a governor at our school who keeps an eye on everything to make sure that the adults are all doing everything they can to keep you safe.
How do we keep you safe?
Safeguarding begins before adults even come and work in our school as we follow all "Safer Recruitment" processes and all staff are required to have an 'Enhanced Disclosure' DBS certificate. This means we follow rules about how we decide who works in our school and we can check with the Police to make sure they are safe to work with children.
All staff and governors have regular safeguarding training (at least annually) and we have a Safeguarding Link Governor. This means that all the adults in school have learned all about how to keep children safe and they get reminders so they don't forget!
Reporting any worries
If you would rather report any worries to Mr Wheatley through your computer, laptop, tablet or phone, you can click on the link in this website called "Online Worry Portal". We have learnt about this in our assemblies. You can type your worries into the portal and Mr Wheatley will receive it the next time he is in school. You can also use this to share any worries you may have about something you have seen or heard online. Please don't use this if there is an emergency as it may take some time before it is seen. If you are extremely worried that you are in danger, you should speak to the nearest trusted adult. If that adult is the reason you are in danger you should phone the Police on 999.
