Year 1- Gruffalo 2024 - 2025

Miss Partington

Welcome to our Year 1 Gruffalo class!

My name is Miss Partington and I am the Year 1 class teacher. I work in Year 1 on a Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Mrs Hayes and Miss Fletcher also work in Year 1 every Wednesday. We are supported by Mrs Hegg, our amazing teaching assistant.

In Year 1 children continue to learn through fun and engaging activities. There is still access to continuous provision activities, however, children are introduced to more structure as the year goes on.

During their time in Year 1, children will learn about topics such as: The Great Fire of London, Dinosaurs and Seaside Holidays.

Home learning

High frequency words are sent home to practise at the beginning of each half term. You will find these in your childs reading record.

Reading books are sent home every Wednesday. Please send your child to school with their reading folder everyday.

Milk and Fruit

All infant children are offered a piece of fruit during the day. Alternatively, you can send one healthy snack into school for your child. We encourage healthy eating and therefore unhealthy snacks such as biscuits, chocolate or crisps are not allowed. Families also have the option to purchase milk for your child. Milk is pre-ordered via Parent Pay.

Water Bottles

Please can your child bring a water bottle to school every day, with their name clearly visible. These will be taken home for cleaning and refilling each day. They can also be refilled at school during the day.

Library

The children can visit the infant library every Monday to choose a book to bring home to read and share. They need to bring the book back on a Monday, so it can be swapped for a new book.

PE

Our PE day is every Wednesday with Miss Fletcher. Please send your child to school in their full PE kit on this day.
